Ottawa, ON – October 29, 2024 – The Indigenous Prosperity Foundation (IPF), in partnership with the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association (NACCA), proudly launched the Money Smarts: My Financial Journey board game at a special event on Parliament Hill, marking a significant milestone in advancing Indigenous financial literacy and economic empowerment.
The Money Smarts board game is designed for Indigenous youth aged 12 and up, providing essential financial literacy skills through engaging, culturally relevant scenarios. Developed in collaboration with NACCA, Victoria LaBillois, Affordance Studio, CPA Canada, and lead Indigenous artist Brandon Mitchell, the game integrates Indigenous values, helping youth build the confidence needed to manage their financial futures successfully.
“We are incredibly proud to launch the Money Smarts board game to empower Indigenous youth across Canada,” said Michelle Okere, Executive Director of the Indigenous Prosperity Foundation. “Financial literacy is a crucial tool for building personal and community prosperity. This initiative aligns with our vision to foster economic empowerment through Indigenous knowledge, creating pathways for future leaders to thrive."
Next Steps: Become a Facilitator and Expand the Impact
The IPF is currently distributing 2,000 copies of the game to Indigenous youth and organizations across Canada. To extend the program’s impact, the foundation invites organizations and individuals to become certified facilitators through its Train-the-Trainer model, delivering interactive workshops that bring the game to life in their communities.
For those interested in becoming facilitators and contributing to the success of this initiative, please contact us at info@indigenousfoundation.ca to get involved.
